These four Bush crafter from England and Wales are now on a canoe tour in Nordmarken. They have been here many times before late in the summer, with normally fine weather. This week has been wet with lots of rain, but as I can see on Facebook they are having a very good time. There are reports almost every day from them.

All good things have an end. Today 31th of August the last group from Travelbase arrived. They will be out in Nordmarken for a full week on canoe tour. Before start there are several information how to behave in nature, how to paddle, that there is a fire ban and it’s only allowed to have a small fire on the approved camps in the DANO area and a lot more. In the coming week weather will be OK but no what we call Indian summer. This week there will also be a team from Travelbase who will check the maps and an info book all people are given before start. It will be updated before next season. We also started to oil paddles and clean safety wests for the coming season.

The last week nr 34 was not so good for our guests. Some rain, you can handle it, but strong wind made some problem for some of the canoers. Normally wind go down in the afternoon so people can paddle. Today 25th of August the weather is perfect. Warm, no wind and sun over the whole DANO Canoe area. We as canoe outfitter are happy when the weather is on our side. Some groups from Travel Base are already on tour for a week on an adventure tour.

First of all, thank you for all mail, congratulations and personnel meetings on my 87 years birthday. It´s nice to have so many friends all over the world. It started the evening before on the 16th with coffee and a cake my wife Gun had baked. About 60 people were around in the Base Camp and all was singing for me and drinking coffee. The next day the 17th was my real birthday and we had about 120 people on the Base Camp so there was a lot of work to be done to get the canoes and equipment back to the main building. Later in the evening 60 people went back with the buss to Holland and Belgium after a fine canoe tour. We had severe rain so everything was wet and we open the voyageur room and started a fire. Late in the evening the staff came with a gift and Gun and I had a late fine dinner. One again thanks for all the congratulations.

About 60 years ago I start paddling as a hobby. From 1956 i’s my only profession as a canoe- and wilderness outfitter in Nordmarken Sweden. In the old days on tour, if we run into bad weather or heavy wind, we just went to shore and stay put until the weather conditions was Ok to continue our tour. In the old days, we had to think and plan ahead for the coming days, and carefully plan the coming tour on days to come in the wilderness and on the lakes. The nature was the one who gave us the rules for the future time. In the old days, there was no WI-FI, no GPS navigation, no Mobil, no telephone in house on the road we could call from. No Tracker to use in emergency. In the old days, we had to solve the problem when it happened, there was nobody to call for help if the wind was to strong, or some of our equipment was wet. We called it personnel responsibility and had to act the best we could to be safe and not sorry. Even if we forgot something before start we hv to deal with it. In the new days on tour, if there is a problem, just call someone on the Mobil ask and for help and try to find someone who has made the mistake that you are in trouble and you can blame for it. In the new days, you can blame the canoe outfitter, the tourist office, Government, the one who give weather information or someone you can find near you who will listen to you Bulls…. Or maybe call EU commission to look into you problem you have and can’t solve yourself since all have a Mobil phone you can use. The Mobil Security, or?
