A day at the office.

Office today, it’s raining outside. Delete some S... in the PC and found this fine picture.  Photo taken of me when the members of The Harry MacFie canoe club were here last time for the yearly rendezvous. It’s special to paddle these LARGE Voyageur canoes, very well for tours with youth and scout groups.  We also have companies out on shorter tours during the spring and autumn as Team Building activities or just a nice late afternoon with a beach party just before sunset sitting around a camp fire.

Some of our guests at the Wilderness House Bockudden are lucky.This guests went out with one of the professional fishing guides we work with and they got some fine fish. The house Bockudden is still free some weekends before the ice fishing start.

Allemansrätten eller Allemansmöjligheten det är frågan.

Jag har under två dagar deltagit i en rad olika möten på Klarälvdalens Folkhögskola där man hade föreläsningar om ”Naturturism ur ett miljöperspektiv”.

För egen del redogjorde jag för de problem som är kring sjösystemet i DANO området m.m. och den genomgripande undersökningen som pågår för att höja områdets attraktivitet med start 2016. Före detta experten på Allemansrätten vid Naturvårdsverket Ingemar Ahlström höll ett långt anförande hur Allemansrätten håller på att förändras i och med folks fritidsvanor ändras och ökar i omfattning.

Ca 60 elever från ett antal folkhögskolor både från Sverige och Finland deltog i de olika seminarierna. Det är ungdomar som går Frilufts och ledarutbildning på 1-2 år.  

Ekoturismföreningen, Visit Sapmi, Konsumentverket, Naturens bästa m.fl. var med och hade inlägg.

Representanter från både Naturvårdsverket och Länsstyrelsen i Värmland var inbjudna, då man ansåg att just deras medverkan var ytterst värdefull, när man har så många blivande frilufts- och natur guider under utbildning.

Det är dåligt att dessa representanter inte ställde upp, och hade viktiga synpunkter för framtida naturturism. Man förlorade en hel del respekt genom att inte komma till träffen.

The last entusiast for Season 2014

Last week I got a call from Denmark. Can we go on a Canoe tour during the Moose hunting season? Answer was it´s OK as long as you stay on the water end close to the shoe line. These two friends took off on Monday and they run in to some severe weather, with lots of rain and even some now. They came back to day in good sharpe and have had a very fine tour and they have seen nobody on the lakes paddling. One has had his as our guest and he had a memory that he was her in Risviken when he was very young. I think this was the last canoers for this season and in a few days we can even have some snow. One evening they heard wolf hauling near by.

Moose hunting is over

Five days of Moose hunting is over in Risviken. We got 5 large moose’s and 3 calves and one of the adults was a big bull with ten antlers. Weather was good the first days, but the last day snow and rain and a bit cold to sit on the stand waiting for the moose to come in the shooting sector. As far as I know the wolf pack north of us has little influence. We had several animals that pass the hunters. Hunting is part of living with the nature and meat is not coming from a freezer in a shop that comes from animals who is killed by some persons mostly in another way, so it is. We still have to hunt moose’s to control the population. There is a car accident almost every day in our region of Värmland and folks are killed of got severe injury. Year 2013 there was 5771 accidents with moose and cars in Sweden.

4 days of hard work.

The last four days I have been around the lake system in Nordmarken to check some of the approved campsites. There is a large project to check around 130 places and some friends and rangers are taking care of some others camp sites.

We study damages to the wooden shelters, toilets, environment around the camps, the firewood situation. In the end of November there is a meeting where the situation will be brought up to date and effort to make the canoe area better for next season.

I´m sorry to say that some of our canoe guests are not behave very well, there is a lot of damage to trees, shelters, fireplaces.  We only found very little garbage and that’s very nice that most of the canoers are taking the garbage back to Base Camp or to the places at the locks between the different lakes and put the garbage in the containers there.

The four Danes on wilderness tour

This afternoon a small group of four Danes took of for a real wilderness tour in Glaskogen. The last week Wolf cubs have been seen in the rea and even track of a Bear with 1-2cubs

In some of the lakes there are Beavers and I do hope that the group can listen to Wolf hauling night time. Canoe tours in late summer and early autumn is often better then summer time. There is a guaranty that you will be almost alone out there. This party have been our guests at least 10 times before and are now up to a wilderness tour they never will forget.
